Portland Bill

The Isle of Portland, or Hardy's 'Isle of Slingers', at the eastern end of Chesil Beach is famous for its stone used in the construction of many buildings, including St Paul's Cathedral in London.
Set at the southern tip of the island the lighthouse, built in 1905 – 1906, stands some 41metres high and guards the approaches to both the Jurassic coast and to Weymouth (Hardy's Budmouth Regis).
To the right of the lighthouse a second one can be seen dating from the 1700s; it is now a bird sanctuary.
These views, in full colour by international photographer Jon Watson, are available unframed.
