Background of the Photographer
Jon Watson grew up in North London, the son of a much respected photographer, so it was inevitable that he took a very early interest in photography.
In the late fifties he attended the prestigious school of photography at Regent Street Polytechnic as a full time student.
Throughout much of the sixties he worked as a commercial photographer in London. During this time he acquired the travel bug and visited North America, Russia, Scandinavia and many other European countries.
In 1968 he and two companions drove overland through Europe, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. Further travel through Thailand and Malaya finally brought them to Australia.
After five years in Australia advancing his career and travelling widely through the outback, he returned to the UK, opting to settle in West Dorset. Enchanted by the mainly unspoilt countryside and spectacular coastline he has been inspired by it to share its beauty with you through the lens of his camera.
In conjunction with his photography, he runs a gallery and picture framing business from the seaside village of West Bay. As well as offering a range of original paintings, prints and photographs by local artists, he also supplies a wide range of old photographs of the surrounding area pre-dating the 1940s.
